MAKING
YOUR
TROPHY COME ALIVE!
The difference is in the Details...
From Small Game...

To Big Game

To Fish

The Details are what makes
your trophy Come Alive!

Custom
Fish Reproductions
Our top quality fish reproductions are for both saltwater species
and freshwater species. Support "Catch and Release" by
reproducing your trophy. The market for fish reproductions has
increased dramatically over the last few years, which in turn has caused the
quality of reproduction blanks to increase as well. many
of the freshwater
species blanks come with transparent, flexible fins and complete mouth detail.
Both freshwater and saltwater have extremely good scale and fin detail. Why do
we call the "Custom" Fish Reproductions? Because we do not use
stencils when we paint these fish. Each is individually painted preferably
using a photograph (if available) of your fish to reproduce its individual
characteristics. This makes your trophy look like your fish, not like the last
50 that I painted.
Custom
Skin-Mount Fish
This process we reserve for freshwater species only. It is more
economical and uses the skin, fins, etc. of your trophy. Some species,
such as trout, use a reproduction head in order to extend the life of your
mount (the heads of some fish contain too much oils to be successfully
removed, therefore they will deteriorate in only a few years if not replaced
with a reproduction). All of the reproduction heads that we use have complete
mouth detail. We call these "Custom" mounts because each fish is
individually painted using a digital picture that we take of your fish before
it is skinned for a reference.
North American Game

Our special mounting process gives you the detail of a
"competition" mount at "standard" mount prices. We
spend a lot of time working on details, giving our mounts very realistic
muscle formation in both the neck/shoulder areas as well as the facial
features of the animal. This is done on each mount individually, making
your trophy a "custom" Mount.
Also, we use only the best competition "white-banded" eyes, lending
to the realistic "expression" that your mount will have. We only use tanned skins on our
small mammals. This, along with our
other mounting procedures, give your mount excellent muscle and facial detail.
On furbearers (such as fox, bobcat, coyote, etc.), tanning their very thin skins gives
your mount a much longer life as well as well as producing a much cleaner and
fuller fur.
African Game
Each manikin is individually hand carved giving our mounts very realistic
muscle formation in both the body/neck areas as well as the facial
features of the animal, making
your trophy a "custom" Mount. Again, we use only the best competition "white-banded" eyes
and shape the eyebrows in the correct position that matches the pose of your
trophy (i.e... alert, relaxed, aggressive, etc.), lending
to the realistic "expression" that your mount will have. All
African Game mounts are tanned skin mounts due to the salt drying of the skins
done before shipment out of Africa. We use only reputable tanneries with
many years of experience. Then, only the best hide adhesives are used to hold
the skin in the muscle detail that we have carved in the manikin.
Gamebirds
We use only the best, most modern techniques and materials on our bird
mounts. Again, a lot of time is spent on the details of these mounts. For
instance, on a wild turkey, there is a minimum of three hours spent
"shingling" the feathers (realigning the color patterns that the bird had when it was
alive) to insure the most realistic, accurate mount possible.
Waterfowl
Again, we use only the best, most modern techniques and materials on our bird
mounts. As with all of our mounts, a lot of time is spent on the details of these mounts.
From the time spent "shingling" the feathers (realigning the color patterns that the bird had when it was
alive) to replacing lost feathers, to using as many references as necessary,
we strive to turn out the most realistic, accurate mount possible.
Medicine Wolf Taxidermy Company Profile
Kevin Kimsey started doing taxidermy in 1998. This began for the simple
reason of saving money on having his trophy's mounted. It evolved into another
business because he put forth the same craftsmanship and attention to detail
that he put into his knives. After fellow hunters and knife customers began to
request his taxidermy work as well, he decided to "hang out his
shingle" and start a business out of it. As it turned out, some of the
knifemaking equipment and skills were applicable to the finishing of fiberglass
fish reproductions, which resulted in them being one of his taxidermy
specialties. Kevin's goals as a taxidermist are:
1. To make each mount an individual work of art through techniques such as
sculpting the "form" or "manikin" so that it has unique but
realistic muscle and facial detail giving it its own expression, and;
2. Not to just to give you a
beautiful work of art, but to make your trophy "come alive" on your
wall.
