| 3 Days of Sightseeing with all accommodation and
catering |
Sightseeing is done from our base at Ndlovu Lodge. Ndlovu Lodge is
situated about 20 minutes outside Pretoria. Upon completion of the
hunting safari we have three days of sightseeing. Below are three
typical days of sightseeing, it can however be changed to something
which would better suit your specific requirements.
Day 1: Pretoria and Cullinan Diamond Mine
The Jacaranda City , so named for the thousands of Jacaranda trees which
line its streets and transform the city to a purple wonderland which is
the focus this excursion. A tour of the cities highlights is on the
agenda as the tour visits the Union Buildings with its commanding view
of the City from its setting against the slope of Meintjieskop. The
building currently houses the office of the South African president.
Designed by the famous British Architect Sir Herbert Baker , it is
regarded as one of the Countries architectural masterpieces. Visits are
also made to the Voortrekker Monument which bears testament to a
people's pioneering spirit before visiting the period museum which is
Melrose House. Melrose house was the location where the Anglo Boer war
officially ended with the signing of the peace of Vereeniging in 1902.
The afternoon leads the Group to the east of Pretoria and the village of
Cullinan where the world's largest Diamond was discovered in 1905.This
great diamond weighed in at an amazing 3106 carats in the rough and was
transformed by the Asscher Brothers in Amsterdam to the magnificent
stones which grace the British Crown Jewels. A tour of the mine sheds
some light on the process by which these most noble of the earths stones
where formed under great pressure and heat millions of years ago, and on
the way in which man extracts them from the earth and shapes them into
the desirable objects they become in the jewelery stores of eh world.
Day 2: Sterkfontein Caves and Lion and Rhino Park
The Sterkfontein caves situated close to the town Krugersdorp is
explored on a morning visit. It is regarded as one of the worlds most
important anthropological sights and has been elevated to a world
heritage sight. Dr Robert Broom of the University of the Witwatersrand
conducted extensive excavations in these caves between 1636 and
1951.Amongst his numerous discoveries of Pre-historical animal fossils
the discovery of an exceptionally well preserved skull of
Australopithecus Africanus ( the southern ape of Africa) is notable. A
species of early man believed to have lived about 2 million years ago.
The skull ( that of a female) was named "Mrs. Ples" and was
widely held as the missing link between ape and man. The cave consist of
six large chambers and at a depth of 40m lies an underground lake which
is revered to poses healing power.
The afternoon brings the group to the Rhino and Lion Park where a game
drive is conducted following lunch. The reserve covers approximately
1600 Ha of typical Highveld vegetation and is home to a large
concentration of antelope. Considerable success in the breading of the
White Rhino has been achieved here and to date no less than 11 calves
have been born at the reserve. Lion , cheetah as well as the rare
African Wild Dog are some of the other species which can be seen and
which should provide exceptional photographic opportunity.
Day 3: Pilansberg and Sun City
The tour travels west, passing the scenic Hartebeespoort Dam en route to
the Pilansberg National Park, which is situated adjacent to the famous
Sun City resort complex. The eroded crater of a long extinct volcano is
the setting of the 55 000 Ha Pilansberg National Park, where a game
drive is conducted by your experienced guide. The Park is home to an
abundance of wildlife, not least being Africa's legendary Big Five.
Lunch is followed by a short drive to Sun City where the afternoon is
devoted to exploring this magnificent resort with its unique
architectural style, man made lakes and tropical gardens. A highlight is
sure to be the inspiring sight of the Palace Hotel as it stands guard
over the valley which houses the famous Gary Player Country Club, to
which the worlds greatest golfers flock once a year to compete in the
Two Million Dollar Golf Challenge. The crocodile sanctuary which is home
to a multitude of these ancient creatures is visited before returning to
the overnight destination.
