Medicine Wolf Taxidermy Company Profile
Kevin Kimsey started doing taxidermy in 1998. This began for the simple
reason of saving money on having his trophy's mounted. It evolved into another
business because he put forth the same craftsmanship and attention to detail
that he put into his knives. After fellow hunters and knife customers began to
request his taxidermy work as well, he decided to "hang out his
shingle" and start a business out of it. As it turned out, some of the
knifemaking equipment and skills were applicable to the finishing of fiberglass
fish reproductions, which resulted in them being one of his taxidermy
specialties. Kevin's goals as a taxidermist are:
1. To make each mount an individual work of art through techniques such as
sculpting the "form" or "manikin" so that it has unique but
realistic muscle and facial detail giving it its own expression, and;
2. Not to just to give you a
beautiful work of art, but to make your trophy "come alive" on your
wall.

MAXIMIZING
YOUR EDGE IN THE FIELD
(Click a photo to go directly to
the "Custom Knives" page)
Kevin Kimsey made his
first knife in a high school knifemaking class in 1982. The knives that he
made in the first eight years were primarily "Hunting Knives". However,
since the beginning of his law enforcement career in 1990, he began to
design and make some of the most "tactically sound" custom knives
available on the market. He does an excellent job of combining utility
with defense in his designs. This has become even more apparent since his
certification as a Law Enforcement Weapons Instructor in 1995.
If you have watched the Custom Knife market over the last few years, then
you have seen Kevin Kimsey win several awards for his work. These awards
include the 1993 "Blade Show" Award for the "Best Handmade
Functional Knife", the 1996 "Blade Show" award for the
"Best Fighter" and the "Blade" Magazine 1996
"Knife of the Year" award for the "Best Fighter". More
recently, his "Apache Tactical Folding Knife" is included in an article
titled "One-Handers: Built For Speed" featured in the October
1999 issue of "Blade" magazine.
He currently has a contract with the American Kenpo Karate International
association for fifty of the "Mills" Fighting Knives and fifty of the
"Mills" Backup Tactical Knife (see page 4 for photos). This business is
expected to grow rapidly since he and Paul Mills, President of AKKI, are
co-designing a five-knife series for the AKKI which includes two styles of
Tactical Pocket Knives.
Kevin Kimsey uses only the finest quality materials to make his knives.
The primary steel used for his blades is ATS-34. Other steels used include
440C, 440V, D-2, and 0-1. Handle materials range from Micarta to exotic
horns and ivory. Unless otherwise specified at the time of order, his
blades are tempered at 59-60 RC (which he has determined to be the best
all-around hardness for both hunting knives and tactical knives) and have been sub-zero quenched.
So, in
closing, whether it is hunting knives, pocket knives, or tactical
knives...Raftter KK Custom Knives can maximize your edge in the field
